 The Stellenbosch University Tubingen-South Africa Program is now accepting applications from qualified South African scholars who are interested in participating in a program that would introduce them to German culture and language.

Scholars from South Africa have the opportunity to experience German culture and language through the Tübingen-South Africa Program, an artistic and language exchange program. 

Additionally, it seeks to improve relations and understanding between Germany and South Africa.

Information about the Tubingen-South Africa Program at Stellenbosch University

Students spend a month in Tübingen participating in a program intended to provide a broad spectrum of knowledge in interesting disciplines, such as language, history, and economics. 

In addition, students participate on field trips and sightseeing tours, creating a stimulating four weeks of diverse literacy.

Every time, the initiative offers 18 scholars from Tübingen's original partner universities the chance to continue participating. The universities of Cape Town, KwaZulu-Natal, Johannesburg, Witwatersrand, Pretoria, and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University are the other comparable universities, listed separately from SU.

You are an excellent candidate if you enjoy participating in group discussions and group activities. You must also be an excellent ambassador for South Africa.

FACULTIES

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences offers its students a dynamic and interactive learning environment, with a particular emphasis on preparing our graduates for an ever-expanding knowledge-based society and economy. Its research, teaching and learning, and community interaction are all centered on the difficulties of being human in a rapidly globalizing world.

Our goal is to not only become the foundation for humanities education, particularly in the Arts, Languages, and Social Sciences, but also to provide teaching and research that is relevant to the region, country, and continent, as well as internationally competitive.
The Faculty is the largest at the University, with nearly 9000 students. We have a comprehensive teaching and learning program for this large student body, which includes 1 500 newcomer first-year students each year.

The Faculty of Science is regarded as an important knowledge partner in South Africa, Africa, and the international academic arena, and it plays an active role in the development of South African society.

There are eight departments in the Faculty of Science, as well as several world-renowned centers with excellent facilities and established research groups. We provide fundamental science education through degree programs in physical, biological, and mathematical sciences.

Each year, we award a large number of research master's and doctoral degrees to approximately 30% of our students. We place a strong emphasis on publishing our research outputs in prestigious international journals, and we use National Research Foundation (NRF) ratings to guide our staff's recognition in their respective fields.

The Faculty of Science collaborates with the Department of Science and Technology and a number of other institutions to raise awareness of the value of science and technology in society and in our schools. We also contribute to people's social capacity and development by forming partnerships with schools and science teachers.

Stellenbosch University has a faculty called the Faculty of Theology. We are a theology faculty, and we are a knowledge partner for other academic communities, various church denominations, and broader society institutions through research, teaching and learning, and community action. We carry out our vocation as an academic institution in local, African, and global contexts.

Criteria for Eligibility for Stellenbosch University Tubingen-South Africa

The following qualifications must be satisfied by applicants for the Stellenbosch University Tubingen-South Africa Program:

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a full-time program at SU
  • Applicants must be in at least their second year of study.
  • Have an overall average of 60%
  • have never traveled abroad
  • be able to travel to Germany in January
  • be a South African citizen
  • hold a valid South African study visa.

The following benefits will be given to successful applicants for the Stellenbosch University Tubingen-South Africa Program:

  •  Study materials (notepad, pens, etc.)
  • Seminars and classes
  • Expenses associated with other,ancillary events and activities
  • Expenses associated with official excursions and factory tours, including transportation, entrance fees, meals, and lodging
As part of your donation, you are required to pay for:
  • your enrollment/administration costs;
  • the courier costs associated with your visa application, if any;
  • your transportation within South Africa to and from the closest airport;
  • foods you consume on weekends; and
  • your spending money (we advise taking between €350 and €400).
