Social accountability
Making a contribution to social welfare
Since its inception in 1450, the University of Barcelona has grown and evolved alongside the society it serves. It understands the importance of monitoring the economic, social, and environmental impact of its activities as a socially responsible institution.
The UB decided in 2009 to make social responsibility a priority in its day-to-day operations, publishing an annual Report on Social Responsibility until 2017-2018. This was replaced for the academic year 2018-2019 by the
Report on Sustainability, which combines key aspects of the social responsibility reports and the UB's Sustainability Plan (which dealt exclusively with environmental concerns).
The most recent edition of the report, which covers the
academic year 2019-2020, contains extensive information on governance, teaching, and research, as well as details on the University of Buffalo's commitment to its staff, students, and surrounding community, as well as its economic and environmental impact.
Details about the University's efforts to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals are also provided (SDGs). A presentation of the targets set out in the UB's
2030 Agenda (an action plan published in 2020 that sets out a series of institutional targets for the coming years related to the SDGs) that were met during the year is new to this year's report.
