More About Switzerland IRP Research Grants 2023

The IRP Research Grant is available to international students from all over the world who want to do research in neuroscience. The IRP Foundations exist only to promote basic and clinical research related to spinal cord injury.

All aspects of CNS and spinal cord lesions, nerve regeneration, trophic neural support, and functional lesion-induced modifications may be addressed in research initiatives, especially in mammals. Diagnostics, acute lesion management, including surgery, neurology, urology, rehabilitation, and other areas related to paraplegia may be the focus of clinical research endeavors.

The IRP Foundation's mission is to promote research all over the world. The IRP Foundation's work is not limited to Switzerland. It fosters research projects from academics, clinical research institutes, and laboratories all over the world in the field of neuroscience and spinal cord regeneration, with the goal of overcoming the effects of paraplegia and eventually curing it.

Criteria for IRP Research Grant Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be eligible for an IRP Research Grant:
  • Languages required:
    • A very high degree of English ability is required.
    • Knowledge of French and/or Italian would be advantageous but not required.
  • All countries in the world are eligible.
  • Methodological originality: All projects must give a clear description of the methods to be used (conservative approach or innovative, creative notion) in order for their feasibility to be appraised. The researcher must ensure that his or her approach, based on the planned methodology, will provide answers to the questions addressed.
  • International reputation: The amount, quality, and relevance of a researcher's scientific contributions are used to determine the worth and breadth of his or her work (articles published in specialized journals, or presentations at scientific congresses).
  • Clinical relevance: Basic research should not be separated from reality. The proposed initiatives must be clinically relevant to the clinical situation caused by spinal cord or brain injuries, and their outputs must clearly contribute to a better understanding of paraplegia and brain lesions.
  • Overall evaluation: An assessment of how the project is presented, described, and motivated: the logic of the planned experiments and the likelihood of obtaining applicable results, a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying brain and spinal cord lesions, and thus the development of new therapeutic techniques.
