Criteria for Government of Ireland Scholarship Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for Master's and Doctoral Scholarships Presented by the Government of Ireland in All Disciplines:
- Languages required: English
- All countries in the world are eligible.
- A first-class or upper-second-class honours bachelor's degree, or the (equivalent) degree, is required. If undergraduate examination results are not available at the time of application, the Council may grant a provisional scholarship offer on the condition that the scholar's bachelor's, or equivalent, degree outcome is first class or upper second-class honours. A scholar must have a master's degree if they do not have a first-class or upper-second-class honours bachelor's degree or the equivalent. The Council's decision

- The applicant must not have had two previous unsuccessful schemes applications, including strategic partner themes within the program.
- The applicant must be a fresh entrant to the degree for which they are applying and have been formally accepted by the relevant department or school.
- Applicants for a research master's scholarship must not be now or previously recipients of a Council Postgraduate Scholarship.
- Applicants for a PhD degree scholarship must not be currently or have previously held any Council Postgraduate Scholarship other than those allowing them to acquire a research master's degree.
- Applicants will be classified into one of two groups based on their nationality and residency.
- Applicants for category I must meet BOTH of the following requirements: be a citizen of a European Economic Area (EEA) member state or Switzerland AND have ordinarily resided in an EEA member state or Switzerland for three of the five years preceding October 1st.
