More About this Postdoctoral Research Position

University of Oslo, Norway, Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Evolutionary Biology 2022

The candidate will collaborate with Kjetil Lysne Voje's ERC Starting Grant project Dissecting the paradox of stasis in evolutionary biology (ROCKS- PARADOX). This is a highly collaborative project involving both domestic and international partners.

The Voje lab is interested in understanding the processes that govern phenotypic evolution over time. We use a wide range of taxa in our research, and we combine empirical work with method development to gain a better understanding of the relationship between microevolutionary processes and the associated evolutionary change that may occur on longer timescales. The position will be associated with the Natural History Museum's Evolution and Paleobiology Group (EPA). EPA is a highly active research group comprised of PhD students, postdocs, and permanent staff that offers the candidate an excellent scientific and social environment.

The paradox of stasis refers to the contrasting observations of phenotypic evolution on short and long timescales; rapid evolution is commonly observed in living populations over a few generations, whereas the fossil record frequently indicates that species remain more or less unchanged for millions of years. The ROCKS-PARADOX project's overarching goal is to provide a better understanding of evolutionary trait dynamics on timescales between micro- and macroevolution.
